Andrea Kahane (Children's Theatre Artistic Director) is the Community Outreach Program Director here at RCPA where she is especially proud to be in charge of producing Children’s Theatre and producing and directing our Summer Camp. Her own performing and teaching experiences are proving to be very beneficial to the success of our programs. In addition to her performing background, she taught Acting, Acting for Dancers and Musical Theatre classes at Inspire Dance and Acting at Fredericksburg Studio of the Arts. She was also involved with summer theatre programs and vocal coaching at Mountainview High School. Andrea especially enjoys teaching college audition preparation lessons, combining monologue and vocal repertoire choice, and then applying vocal techniques with coaching.
You may recognize Andrea from the RCPA stage as she has been a performer here for many years. Andrea studied for two summers in Italy upon graduation from Indiana University School of Music. She has sung with the opera companies of Orlando, Knoxville, Nashville, Milwaukee, Indianapolis and Chautauqua. Some highlights in Andrea’s career were performing as the soloist in John Rutter’s Magnificat at Carnegie Hall with John Rutter conducting and touring with Starlight Musicals in Show Boat starring Van Johnson. Her favorite Riverside roles include Mrs. Hubbard in Murder on the Orient Express, Marge in The Bridges of Madison County, Emma Goldman in Ragtime, Florence Foster Jenkins in Souvenir, Katie in Meet Me in St Louis, Mama in Bright Star, Soloist in A Christmas Spectacular, Rosie in Mamma Mia!, Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady, soloist in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Truvy Jones in Steel Magnolias, Mazeppa in Gypsy, Carlotta in Phantom, Fraulein Kost in Cabaret, Golde in Fiddler on the Roof, Martha in White Christmas, Louise Seger in Always…Patsy Cline, and Ernestina in Hello, Dolly!.
