Karmela Carbajal is a rising junior at the University of Oklahoma pursuing a double major in Modern Dance Performance and Biology. Karmela has trained at Chamberlain School of Ballet, Dallas Black Dance Academy, and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She has had the privilege of attending summer intensives at Perry Mansfield Professional Dance Intensive and Dallas Black Dance Theatre Summer Intensive and participating in conferences like the International Association of Blacks in Dance. Since at the University of Oklahoma, Karmela has had the opportunity to perform Vespers, choreographed by Ulysses Dove (restaged by Alfred Dove), and Awakening, choreographed by Roxanne Lyst, as well as student choreography.
