Kazem Abdullah is an internationally acclaimed conductor known for his dynamic artistry, thoughtful interpretations, and deep commitment to engaging diverse audiences. During the current season, he opened the Metropolitan Opera’s new production of Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, hailed by The New York Times as “an American classic.” His upcoming engagements include debuts with the Naples Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, and North Carolina Symphony, alongside return appearances with the Indianapolis Symphony and Seattle Opera.
A passionate advocate for American composers, Abdullah has led premieres of works by Rhiannon Giddens, Gregory Spears, John Luther Adams, Caroline Shaw, and Daniel Bernard Roumain. Formerly Generalmusikdirektor of Aachen, Germany, he conducted more than 25 operas and collaborated with artists including Midori, Angela Gheorghiu, and Augustin Hadelich. Abdullah currently
resides in Nürnberg, Germany.
