Undine Smith Moore’s We Shall Walk Through The Valley is an arrangement of a traditional negro spiritual set for an unaccompanied SATB choir. The spiritual speaks about looking to the future without fear or sorrow which is not clear about whether it is about liberation or the afterlife.

Moore uses sustained homophonic harmonies and a variety of dynamics to create a sense of unity throughout the piece while still adding some contrast with the introduction of the voice parts in the beginning of the piece to create a sense of spiritual meditation.
