Adolphus Hailstork (b. 1941) is an esteemed American composer and educator known for blending African American, Native American, and European musical traditions. He studied at Howard University, the Manhattan School of Music, and Michigan State University, with additional training under Nadia Boulanger in France. Hailstork has held teaching positions at Michigan State, Youngstown State, Norfolk State, and Old Dominion University. His works are widely performed and published by Theodore Presser Company and Carl Fischer Music. Recognized with numerous awards, including the Ernest Bloch Award and a Fulbright Fellowship, he remains a prominent figure in contemporary American music.
