THOMAS MEEHAN (1929–2017) (Book). Three-time Tony® Award-winning book writer for the Broadway musicals Annie, The Producers, and Hairspray. He collaborated on many Broadway musicals, including I Remember Mama; Ain’t Broadway Grand: Bombay Dreams; Cry-Baby; Young Frankenstein; Chaplin: Rocky; Dave, The Musical; and the Off-Broadway musicals Annie Warbucks, Death Takes a Holiday, and The Lady Eve. He was a long-time contributor of humor pieces to The New Yorker. He co-authored the libretto of the opera 1984 and was an Emmy® Award-winning TV comedy writer and collaborator on screenplays, including Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs, To Be or Not to Be, The Producers, and One Magic Christmas. He was a member of the Council of the Dramatists Guild.
