Tahrah Cohen is a founding member of both Antony and The Johnsons and The Machine. Cohen has toured the U.S., Europe, The Middle East, and Asia with each band since 1988. She has been endorsed by Sabian, Vater Percussion since 1990, Evans, and joined the Pork Pie Percussion family in 2020.
She has toured extensively since founding The Machine in 1988. Eventually working her way to the NYC downtown art scene, she met Anohni through the Black Lips performance cult and soon after began working with her to form The Johnsons.
Career Highlights: In 2000, Cohen had the honor of performing with Lou Reed at PS 122 in NYC, for his first performance of "Candy Says" with Antony and The Johnsons. She also performed with him as his backing band at “Hal Willner’s Halloween Show: Never Bet the Devil Your Head” (Royce Hall, Los Angeles, 2002). In 2002, Cohen was part of Jazz is Dead’s summer tour featuring Jeff Pevar & T. Laviz with a special performance at The Red Rocks Amphitheater.
A 2004 Bowery Ballroom performance with Antony and The Johnsons for the I Am A Bird Now record release found Cohen performing with Lou Reed, Boy George, and Rufus Wainwright. In 2005, she performed at Antony and the Johnsons’ sold out show at Carnegie Hall after winning the Mercury Prize for I Am A Bird Now.
