Hervé Koubi
Choreographer and Artistic Director

Trained at the “school of dance,” notably with Rosella Hightower, Hervé Koubi decided in 2000 to develop his first choreographic project. It is the tradition, and all the verbal and physical transmission that it carries within it, which captures his interest. A dance that gathers, that unites, that makes links between people.

This passion for memory, filiation, and history led him to Algeria in 2009 in search of his own roots. There, he was struck by urban dancers and urban practice.

Since then, he considers the porosity of the techniques between them as a space of experimentation which would exceed the frameworks and the technical and aesthetic affiliations.

As a committed choreographer, he develops numerous territorial projects with the communities.

He was decorated in July 2015 with the Order of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by Brigitte Lefèvre.

“If he can make worlds as largely absorbing as the one he conjures here, he is an important addition to dance” - The New York Times, Alastair Macaulay
