Pianist-Composer Michael Stephen Brown has been hailed by The New York Times as “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers.” He regularly performs recitals and concertos worldwide, with commissions from leading performers and ensembles. Recent highlights include a solo recital tour culminating at Alice Tully Hall for the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, recitals with his longtime duo partner cellist Nicholas Canellakis, concerts with violinist Pinchas Zukerman, and recital tours in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. As a composer, Brown was recently in residence at the Yaddo artist colony, has received numerous commissions, and toured his Piano Concerto with several orchestras across the US and Poland. A prolific recording artist, Connection, an album of his works featuring the East Coast Chamber Orchestra, and Mendelssohn+ with premieres by Delphine von Schauroth are both slated for release in 2024. Brown was composer- and artist-in-residence at the New Haven Symphony and lives in New York City with his two 19th-century Steinway D pianos, Octavia and Daria.
