THE WIZARD OF OZ
THE WIZARD OF OZ is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. www.concordtheatricals.com
Travel with us…to a place where there isn’t any trouble, “far, far away, behind the moon, beyond the rain”. Can you picture it?
Somewhere over the rainbow, Oz is a place of dreams, of hope, of envisioning and building a better and more vibrant world. In Oz, we are reminded about the necessity and power of friendship. We become smarter, more compassionate, and braver because of each other. We discover that we are capable of more than we know, and that a brilliant mind, a kind heart, fierce courage, and a safe and supportive home live within us all.
The Wizard of Oz has become a cultural and beloved touchstone that resonates universally. Most of us have traversed the yellow brick road several times, so you might wonder why produce this timeless classic now? I consider this to be the perfect time to journey again – or for the first time – through L. Frank Baum’s bold and symbolic world of imagination. In reflecting on everything we have been through these past few years - in our communities, in our country, and in the world – we have been swept up in quite a cyclone of events.
What have we learned? How have we been pulled apart and how do we find our way back to each other again? What stands out to us most clearly now, as most important, most true and most dear? What do we look for, outside of ourselves, that might already live within? These are the questions that this timeless classic – as poignant now as ever – ask of us all.
So, as you travel through Oz (and marvel at the Barter production team’s matchless creativity), I invite you to open your minds and rediscover this modern fairytale in a new and magical way. Imagining that together – with courage, care, thoughtfulness, and unwavering belief – we can handle any obstacle together. Because there is no place like home.
