Three places in New England

  1. The “Saint Gaudens” in Boston Common (Col. Shaw and His Colored Regiment)
    *inspired by a monument depicting the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, the second all-black regiment to serve in the Union Army during the American Civil War
  2. Putnam’s Camp, Redding, Connecticut
    *an historic landmark named for General Israel Putnam, who played a significant role in the Revolutionary War, especially at the Battle of Bunker Hill
  3. The Housatonic at Stockbridge
    *written to capture an early morning walk along the Housatonic River in Massachusetts when the mist had not entirely left the river bed and distant singing from nearby churches could be heard across the water
