The Mākaha Sons have championed the rich heritage of Hawaiian music and culture, earning numerous accolades in Hawaiʻi and across the mainland United States. Their commitment to preserving and celebrating traditional Hawaiian music has resonated with audiences around the world and earned lasting recognition from their peers in the music industry.
The Mākaha Sons have received numerous Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, recognizing their enduring discography and dedication to Hawaiʻi’s unique musical heritage. In 2007, they became the first recipients of the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for Best DVD. Three years later, they received the Lifetime Achievement Award, further cementing their legacy. In 2013, they were inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame.
With an impressive catalog of 22 CDs, the Mākaha Sons have performed in concert halls around the world, from Carnegie Hall in New York City to stages in Washington, D.C., Mexico, Canada, and Japan. They have also had the honor of performing for the President and Vice President of the United States in Hawaiʻi.
Today, the Mākaha Sons remain one of Hawaiʻi’s most respected Hawaiian musical groups, carrying forward the legacy of the traditional Hawaiian sound. Their distinctive harmonies, heartfelt musicianship, and engaging stage presence have earned them generations of devoted fans.
The legacy continues with founding member Jerome Koko, who remains at the forefront of the group on vocals and 12-string guitar, joined by Kimo Artis on vocals and electric bass and Hanalē Kaʻanapu on vocals and 6-string guitar. Together, this talented trio honors the classic Mākaha Sons sound, blending intricate melodies, rich vocal harmonies, and vibrant Hawaiian storytelling.
