Director's Letter

My father, Reverend James Foster Reese, bought the album Jesus Christ Superstar when it was initially released in 1973. I can’t say I remember him listening to the album, but I do remember he loved to refer to songs in his sermons. I would listen to a side of the album every Sunday before we went to church. I later found out my mother thought it was sacrilegious, but that is another story for another day.

Jesus Christ Superstar was not written as a musical. It was written as a rock opera album which was made into a musical when many churches started to perform it as a play.

My father was a minister who excepted people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. I believe this led me to be appreciative of music from diverse cultures. I hope you like our interpretation of Jesus Christ Superstar. It may not be your regular mom and pop version of the musical, but it may be my fathers.
