A FEW WORDS FROM THE DIRECTOR
“What a day this has been! What a rare mood I’m in! Why, it’s almost like being in love. There’s a smile on my face for the whole human race. Why, it’s almost like being in love!”
For me, these lyrics sum up the sheer joy that LERNER & LOEWE’S BRIGADOON brings to the world. What a true honor it has been to work together with this amazing cast, orchestra, designers, and crew.
Our choice to present this production of BRIGADOON in a very traditional and authentic way was easy. The beautiful melodies, coupled with the timeless love story, lend themselves to the very naturalistic approach, strengthened even further with the dreamy set and traditional Scottish costumes.
I’m sure many can agree that with so much challenging “stuff” floating around us these days in the world, what a pleasure it has been to be able to simply unplug for a few hours and experience the mystical world of BRIGADOON. I leave each rehearsal with a smile on my face, humming the tunes and thinking about the dialogue, written in the 1940s, looking back 200 years before that, but lines that still hold so much meaning today. For example, when Tommy is about to leave in Act 2. Fiona says “I shouldn’t be surprised if I’ll be less lonely now than I was before you came. I think real loneliness is not being in love in vain, but not being in love at all.” I cry every time!
It is my honor to serve Music Theater Works as a director and at the Board level. I believe in this company so much and I ask you to join me in supporting them. Their commitment to artistic excellence and a wide variety of show titles is unparalleled. In a time when many theater companies are struggling to keep the doors open, I hope to help MTW thrive.
Lastly, I feel like I hit the jackpot with the dream team of Michael McBride, music director and Clayton Cross, assistant director and choreographer. Along with the top notch stage managers, designers, production team, and the rock star staff in the Music Theater Works office - Kyle, Christopher, Jen, and Chris, the collaboration on this show has been a true delight. Thank you!
Sasha
