Willy Chirino is a Cuban American singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, loved and respected by millions of fans worldwide. He was born April 5, 1947, in Consolación del Sur, Cuba, and in 1960 came to the U.S. via the rescue airlift known as Operation Peter Pan which rescued over 14,000 children.
Chirino began his artistic career in Miami, releasing his first album in 1974. Since then, he has recorded 39 albums, several of which have attained platinum and gold status. In 2006, his album Son del Alma, won a Grammy® for Best Salsa/Merengue Album. His 35th anniversary album Willy Chirino Live-35th Anniversary garnered him his first nomination for Best Salsa Album at the 2007 Latin Grammy® Awards.
In 1994, Chirino founded the Willy Chirino Foundation which has helped hundreds of families in Peru, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, and the U.S. The mission of the Willy Chirino Foundation is to enable poor and displaced people in the world to lead meaningful lives in their own communities. His philanthropic efforts have been recognized by UNICEF and the Department of State. He has also lent his talents to help raise much-needed funds for orphanages in Mazatlan, La Romana, and a home for Children with Aids in Puerto Rico.
Chirino is married to singer Lissette Alvarez and lives in Miami, FL. They are the parents of six children and five grandchildren. Their daughter Alana lives in Sherman Oaks, California and is one of the reasons Chirino frequently visits the state, along with sold-out concerts in Downey and Glendale. He lent his support to relief efforts during this year’s Los Angeles Wildfires helping raise much-needed funds for the victims.
In 2014, Chirino received a Latin Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award for his stellar music career. In 2021, he received the John S. McCain Freedom Award in Washington DC. In 2022, he won an Emmy® for two episodes of Legends of Exile, which told his life story, produced by America TeVe. During his career, Chirino has received a myriad of awards and recognitions including the Billboard Award of Excellence, dozens of gold records, keys, and proclamations from cities and states, and letters of commendation from four U.S. presidents. Beginning in 2024 and continuing this year, Chirino is celebrating his 50th anniversary in the music business with sold-out concerts in the U.S. and Europe and has received special recognitions from the United States Congress and several state legislatures.
Willy Chirino has not only become a music icon, but also, through his compositions, has become the voice of the Cuban people and of freedom lovers around the world.

El nació el 5 de abril, 1947, en Consolación del Sur, Cuba, y llego a los Estados Unidos en 1960 por medio del rescate aéreo conocido como Operación Peter Pan que rescato más que 14,000 niños.
Chirino empezó su carrera artística en Miami, con su primer álbum en 1974. Desde ese momento, él ha grabado 39 álbumes, numerosos de la cual han obtenido status platino y oro. En el 2006, su álbum Son del Alma gano un Grammy® para el Best Salsa/Merengue Album. Su álbum de 35° aniversario Willy Chirino Live-35th Anniversary le valió su primera nominación para Best Salsa en los premios Latin Grammy® de 2007.

Chirino está casado con cantante Lissette Alvarez y vive en Miami, Florida. Son los padres de seis hijos y cinco nietos. Su hija Alana vive en Sherman Oaks, California y es una de las razones Chirino visita el estado con frecuencia, además de conciertos agotados en Downey y Glendale. El presto su apoyo a los esfuerzos de asistencia durante los Los Angeles Wildfires de este año, ayudando a recaudar fondos muy necesarios para las víctimas.
