Founded in Colombia in 1979 by Jairo Varela and Alexis Lozano, Grupo Niche has enjoyed and continues to enjoy great popularity throughout Latin America and the U.S. and has become one of the most important players in the world of salsa music.
Grupo Niche found their first success in 1981 with their album Querer es Poder, particularly with the single “Buenaventura y Caney.” The group relocated in 1982 to Cali, Colombia, where they have been based since and released their hit single “Cali Pachanguero” in 1984, a tribute to the “world salsa capital” which catapulted them to one of the top salsa bands of Colombia. After 40 years, Grupo Niche has become one of the most legendary bands in Colombia.
Grupo Niche is referred to as the “Salsa Experience” with its vigorous, uptempo dance music as well as slower-paced romantic numbers. Among their best known albums are No Hay Quinto Malo, Triunfo, and Tapando el Hueco, all of which gained Gold certifications. Their biggest hits include “Hagamos Lo Que Diga Corazón,” “Nuestro Sueño,” the famous cumbia” Canoa Rancha,” and their most famous song “Cali Pachanguero.”
The ongoing success of Grupo Niche is based on their commitment to salsa music traditions, romantic ballads and a truly amazing stage show. The audience response is stunning every time. There is no performance that doesn’t include excited cheering, dancing, and long-standing ovations.
