Cincinnati Opera artist Sirgourney Cook is a dynamic soprano and passionate music educator whose career spans more than a decade across Chicago, Buffalo, Boston, and Cincinnati. A versatile performer with roots in both classical and contemporary music, Sirgourney has toured internationally as a background vocalist for EGOT-winner Jennifer Hudson, bringing her rich, expressive voice to audiences around the world.
She was the featured soloist in Duke Ellington’s Concerts of Sacred Music at Boston University’s 2017 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration, under the baton of Ellington protégé Maestro Randall Keith Horton. In 2019, she debuted with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, performing the iconic “Song to the Moon” from Dvořák’s Rusalka, and has returned for multiple seasons with Maestro Christopher Wilkins, including in 2025 for Jesse Montgomery’s Five Freedom Songs with the Akron Symphony.
In 2021, Sirgourney debuted with the BPO under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, and returned in 2023 for a stunning rendition of “Salammbô’s Aria” from Citizen Kane, led by Anthony Parnther. Recently, she was a featured soloist in Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Goes to Church concert (2024), joined the chorus in their 2025 production of Tosca, and performed principal roles in the Cincinnati Opera’s workshop of a newly commissioned opera, Good Trouble, premiering in 2027.
A Chicago native, Sirgourney holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance with a minor in philosophy from Lawrence University, and a Master of Music in opera performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, where she was a two-time Presidential Scholar. She currently lives in Cincinnati with her husband, Rev. Dr. Julian Armand Cook, and their three young children.
