As we approach the end of winter, Kleinhans Music Hall continues to be a source of warmth, energy, and connection through music. This collection of concerts highlights the breadth of our orchestra’s artistry, inviting audiences to experience music that spans genres, generations, and expressive styles.
Nostalgia and romance take center stage in our February Pops concerts, starting with a heartfelt tribute to Luther Vandross by American Idol-winning vocalist Ruben Studdard on Valentine’s Day weekend. Studdard honors Vandross’ R&B hits of the ’80s and ’90s with his own soulful renditions, followed by a complimentary Sweetheart Dance in the Mary Seaton Room after the February 14 performance. Also in the Pops series, singer-dancer stars Joan Hess and Kirby Ward bring Broadway and Hollywood classics to life—from “Cheek to Cheek” to “All That Jazz” and “Singing in the Rain.” In the next installment of our Rock series, acclaimed Pink Floyd tribute band The Machine joins the orchestra to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the album Wish You Were Here.
Beethoven’s famed Symphony No. 5 returns to the Classics Series—its iconic opening and triumphant conclusion offering a powerful message of resilience and hope. The program also features Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, performed by George Li under JoAnn Falletta’s baton. Then, in a thrilling reunion, virtuoso percussionist Colin Currie joins JoAnn and the orchestra to perform Danny Elfman’s Percussion Concerto, which JoAnn and Colin recorded together in 2024 with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.
