Franco-Brazilian guitarist, teacher, and composer Elodie Bouny’s mother is Bolivian, and father is French. An international tour de force, she grew up and studied in Paris and furthered her studies in Rio de Janeiro. Bouny has written the following about Ignis II:
“This piece, Ignis II (‘fire’ in Latin), was composed in honor of the Amazon, commissioned by the Orquestra Filarmônica Catarinense. For years, the Amazon has been suffering mistreatment due to clandestine and sometimes political actions, but also due to natural disasters resulting from climate change. These tragic events have destroyed one of the planet’s most precious resources and have disastrous consequences.”
“The piece, for string orchestra, carries a fatalistic tone that aims to spark interest in the cause at hand. The first introductory movement was composed based on a sample recorded in the Amazon, creating a sonic experience that transports the listener to the sounds of the birds that become part of the work.” –Elodie Bouny
