Sal Andolina is a rare crossover artist whose virtuosity on saxophone and clarinet allows him to move effortlessly between the classical repertoire and the world of jazz. His dynamic musicianship and stylistic versatility have made him a sought-after performer on both concert and swing stages alike.
As a touring artist, Sal has appeared at major venues across the United States, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, and has reached national audiences on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Since 1994 he has been a member of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, serving as clarinetist, bass clarinetist, and saxophonist. In this role, he has been featured as a supporting soloist with a distinguished roster of guest artists and is regularly spotlighted on the orchestra’s Pops and Rock series.
Sal has also appeared as soloist with JoAnn Falletta and the Buffalo Philharmonic, and with other orchestras including the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall with Marvin Hamlisch, and the Philly Pops with Peter Nero, performing the Artie Shaw Concerto.
A founding member of the Amherst Saxophone Quartet, Sal toured extensively and was featured on the cover of Billboard magazine. His solo recordings include Like Benny to Me, Masterworks for Clarinet, and Blue Thoughts. His work is regularly heard on NPR, APR, and BBC broadcasts.
