Kevin Lyons
Trumpet

Trumpeter Kevin Lyons hails from Clinton, Mississippi, and has long held a dual passion for Classical and Jazz music.  In some seasons, he can be heard in both Carnegie Hall and the Blue Note Jazz Club.

Kevin received his early training from the great Sonny Hill, and later studied at Louisiana State University with James West, and at the University of Southern Mississippi with Allan Cox.  He continued his education at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Michael Sachs and James Darling, earning his Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance.  During his studies in Cleveland, Kevin won the Bernard Aldestein Award in Trumpet, and participated in the Aspen Music Festival.

After conservatory, Kevin spent two years touring the United States, Canada, Japan, and the Dominican Republic with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.  Later, he moved to his current home of Atlanta, Georgia, where he won positions with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, Greenville Symphony Orchestra, the Georgia Symphony, and the Columbus (GA) Symphony.  Kevin has been featured as soloist with the Georgia Symphony, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, the Gwinnett Philharmonic, and the Atlanta Community Orchestra.

Kevin appears on a number of recordings by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and artists including Sinead O'Connor, Matchbox Twenty, and John Driscoll Hopkins of the Zac Brown Band.  He is a founding member of the funk band Bumpin' the Mango, and is a member of the Joe Gransden Big Band.  Kevin's chamber credits include Il Brasso Magnifico and Atlanta Brassworks.  He has performed in featured ensembles at conferences for the International Trumpet Guild, International Trombone Association, International Tuba Association, and International Euphonium Association.
