Matthew Kawaiola Sproat was born and raised in Hau'ula, O‘ahu, but hails from the famed Sproat family from North Kohala on the Big Island. He is the great-grandnephew of the legendary musician, storyteller, and NEA National Heritage Fellow Kindy Sproat. In 2003, Matt won the Big Island falsetto competition. He has both studied and performed with some of the best musicians Hawaii has to offer, dedicating himself to developing his artistry. Sproat, a master woodworker, founded his company The Kealohi Collection, creating hand-crafted jewelry made of indigenous woods and inspired by the mountains and oceans of Hawai‘i
