Tawanda Suessbrich-Joaquim, an award-winning vocalist, embodies the essence of jazz with a musical journey that spans cultural and geographical borders. Raised in the vibrant tapestry of the deep south of New Mexico, her roots reflect a unique blend of German and Mozambican heritage, offering her a rich musical upbringing infused with global influences from Cuba, the South Pacific Islands, the Middle East, and France.

Graduating with a bachelor of arts degree from Santa Fe University of Art and Design, Tawanda's passion for jazz deepened under the guidance of mentors Mirabai Daniels and Horace Alexander Young. Influenced by legends like Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, and Anita O'Day, she emerged as a strong, powerful black woman committed to honoring jazz traditions.

Tawanda's musical aspirations extend beyond jazz, encompassing a diverse range from classical composers to contemporary artists like Carole King and James Taylor. Her commitment to promoting universal values, including education, clean water, sustainable economic growth, and social change, is a testament to her deep-rooted desire to contribute positively to the world.

In 2020, Tawanda achieved a significant milestone by winning the prestigious Sarah Vaughan Vocal Jazz competition, solidifying her status among luminaries like Cyrille Aimée and Jazzmeia Horn. Now based in Los Angeles, she is poised to soar to new heights, bringing boundless joy to the jazz community with her powerful vocals and unwavering dedication to collective healing and social progress.
