Daniel R. Durrett began his training at Dr. Lyrica Joy Ministries Ballet School and later studied at UpTown Arts before earning a scholarship to Cincinnati Ballet’s Otto M. Budig Academy. After attending Houston Ballet’s summer intensive, he joined Houston Ballet II, where he performed in Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante, Stevenson’s The Nutcracker, and Welch’s Swan Lake, among others. Promoted to the corps in 2016, he continued performing works by Stevenson, Welch, and Peck.
Durrett joined Boston Ballet in 2017, becoming a second soloist in 2022 and soloist in 2024. His Boston Ballet repertoire includes Ashton’s Cinderella (Jester); Balanchine’s Agon and Chaconne; Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet (Benvolio); Forsythe’s Artifact Suite, Playlist (EP), and In the Middle Somewhat Elevated; Kylián’s Bella Figura; Peck’s Everywhere We Go; and Nissinen’s Swan Lake and The Nutcracker (Nutcracker Prince, Snow King). He has also danced in Robbins’ Fancy Free (1st Sailor) and Ossola’s The Space Between.
In 2015, Durrett won the gold medal in the Pre-Professional Division at the Indianapolis International Ballet Competition and received top awards at Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in Indianapolis, competing in the YAGP finals in New York in 2013.
