These concerts are the North Carolina Symphony debut of Rachelle Gilmore.
American soprano Rachele Gilmore is a native of Atlanta and received her bachelor’s degree in music from Indiana University, continuing with graduate studies at Boston University. She was a Young Artist at Glimmerglass Opera, Florida Grand Opera, and Aspen Music Festival’s Opera Theater Center, and was a winner in Placido Domingo’s Operalia, The World Opera Competition, in Paris. She is a regular performer in America, Europe, and Asia.
This season, Gilmore has performed as the soprano soloist in Orff’s Carmina burana with the San Antonio Philharmonic. In previous seasons she joined Opera Roanoke for concerts of Strauss opera highlights and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra for Mendelssohn’s Elijah; performed Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra; and appeared in Handel’s Messiah with San Francisco Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the University Musical Society Michigan.
Gilmore’s orchestral appearances include the Los Angeles Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, and Seattle Symphony. Notable operatic engagements include Marie in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment with Austin Opera, a role debut as Giulietta in Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi with Opera San Antonio, and Nannetta in Verdi’s Falstaff with Opera Omaha. She has sung the role of Olympia in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann with many companies, including the Bayerische Staatsoper, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and The Metropolitan Opera.
