A performing company since 1995 and a school of ballet since 2003, the Triangle Youth Ballet is deeply committed to community outreach and making the art of ballet accessible to all. They have partnered with local school systems, Durham Arts Council, The ArtsCenter, the Arts Discovery series at the Carolina Theatre of Durham, UNC Children’s Hospital, North Carolina Arts in Action, and the North Carolina Symphony. Previous North Carolina Symphony collaborations have included The Carnival of the Animals, Bug Songs, Sneetches at the Beaches, and Peter and the Wolf.
Lauren Lorentz de Haas, founder and Artistic Director, and Kate P. Currin, Associate Director, have built a repertory that includes classical and contemporary choreography ranging from The Nutcracker, accompanied by a full orchestra, to the full-length original ballet Dracula—as well as original versions of Alice in Wonderland, La Fille Mal Gardée, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Sleeping Beauty, and Gaité Parisienne. This April, the company will premiere a new production, Don Quixote, in the historic Forest Theatre on the University of North Carolina campus in Chapel Hill.
Triangle Youth Ballet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and a member of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, and was accepted into Regional Dance America Southeast in 2005.
