In February of 2020, David Danzmayr led the North Carolina Symphony with pianist Natasha Paremski on Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto; the program also included works by Richard Strauss and American composer Lera Auerbach.
David Danzmayr is widely regarded as one of the most talented and exciting European conductors to emerge from his generation. As the newly appointed Music Director of the Oregon Symphony, he begins his tenure there at the start of the 2021/22 season.
Danzmayr also stands at the helm of the Pro Musica Chamber Orchestra Columbus, having been that ensemble’s Music Director for the past seven years, and holds the title of Honorary Conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, an orchestra with whom he served as Chief Conductor for the past four seasons—leading the Zagreb musicians on several European tours, with acclaimed concerts in Salzburg and the Vienna Musikverein.
Earlier in his career, as Music Director of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra in Chicago, Danzmayr featured a work by an American composer on every program. He is a prize winner of conducting competitions including the International Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition and the international Malko Competition for Young Conductors. He has also been awarded the Bernhard Paumgartner Medal by the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum.
In recent years, Danzmayr has carved out his niche as an interpreter of a wide array of repertoire, with appearances in recent seasons including the Minnesota Orchestra and the symphony orchestras of Detroit, Milwaukee, and Indianapolis, as well as the Houston Symphony, Pacific Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and the symphonies of New Jersey, Utah, Colorado, and North Carolina.
