These concerts are the North Carolina Symphony debut of Josh Lovell.
The 2023/24 season of Josh Lovell, described by the The Guardian as “a handsome sounding tenor with a warm, liquid voice and easy high notes,” includes performances with Opéra national de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival, Vancouver Opera, and the Canadian Opera Company. In concert, he debuts at the Royal Concertgebouw, the Opéra royal de Versailles, and Theater an der Wien.
As a soloist, Lovell’s performances have included Bach’s Coffee Cantata with Music of the Baroque, Messiah with the International Music Foundation and the Victoria Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Sinfonietta Rīga, and the Evangelist in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Victoria Philharmonic Choir.
A native of Victoria, British Columbia, Lovell is a former member of the Wiener Staatsoper ensemble and of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is the winner of the 39th International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition and the Grand Prize and Opera Prize winner of the 52nd Annual International Vocal Competition’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands.
