Lawrence Loh most recently appeared with the North Carolina Symphony at Summerfest last year, conducting Harry Potter Vs. Star Wars. He will return in October for the North Carolina Symphony Pops Opening Weekend, also featuring the music of John Williams.


Lawrence Loh was recently named Music Director of the Waco Symphony Orchestra and has been Music Director of The Syracuse Orchestra (previously known as Symphoria) since 2015. He was Assistant, Associate, and Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 2005-2015 and returns frequently to lead a wide variety of programs. Previous positions include Music Director of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Syracuse Opera, Music Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra, Associate Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Associate Conductor of the Colorado Symphony, and Music Director of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.

As a guest conductor, Loh’s recent engagements include the San Francisco Symphony, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Seattle Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic, Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Cathedral Choral Society at the Washington National Cathedral.

Loh has assisted John Williams on multiple occasions and conducted numerous John Williams tribute concerts. He has collaborated with a wide range of pops artists from Chris Botti and Ann Hampton Calloway to Jason Alexander and Idina Menzel. He is particularly adept at conducting films in concert and has led Black Panther, Star Wars (Episodes 4-6), Jaws, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Princess Bride, Jurassic Park, Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, and Singin’ in the Rain, among other film productions.

Loh received his Artist Diploma in orchestral conducting from Yale, his master’s degree in choral conducting from Indiana University, and his bachelor’s degree and Certificate of Management Studies from the University of Rochester.
