Good evening to our beloved BPO audience, and welcome to Opening Night! I cannot imagine a more exciting opening concert in our entire country, featuring the astonishing Alexander Malofeev—a young superstar who just might be the heir to Rachmaninoff himself. Sasha will play the beloved Tchaikovsky concerto, and I know that all of us will never forget this performance. The program also includes two brilliant orchestral showpieces to get you in an excellent mood: Bernstein's madcap opening to his opera, Candide, and a tone poem drawn from one of the most romantic operas ever composed, Der Rosenkavalier.
Welcome back to a glorious season of music with the Buffalo Philharmonic, dear friends and family!
