This concert opens with Rossini's most brilliant overture, named after the beautiful Queen who changed history by assuming the throne of Assyria when her husband died. The piece shines with fantastic woodwind solos and is totally charming. Bartók comes next, in a piece that resonates with his love for Hungary and his people, using echoes of their folk songs and dances. The program closes with 22-year-old pianist Maxim Lando, who will fill Kleinhans with the special poetry and pianistic beauty of Chopin's first piano concerto. Welcome to Buffalo, Maxim!
