Program Overview

By JoAnn Falletta, Music Director

The most well-known symphony ever written? Yes, and it is still glowing with power, poetry, and incredible joy! Beethoven remains the most beloved composer in the pantheon and his music reaches out directly to our hearts. Along with his amazing fifth symphony, we perform his first piano concerto—his calling card in Vienna, announcing a new breath of Romanticism and individuality that changed our music world forever.

We begin marking the 250th anniversary of our country with a lesser-known gem by Aaron Copland: his wonderful Dance Symphony. Filled with the captivating personality of a true American genius, the work is a winner!
