Welcome to OPENING NIGHT at the Buffalo Philharmonic! The BPO musicians and I are very happy to greet you with a gorgeous first concert. We open the evening with our shining brass section playing Paul Dukas' heraldic Fanfare, and continue with perhaps the most beloved French composition, Debussy's shimmering portrait of the sea, La Mer. We welcome our superstar guest, pianist Lang Lang, lauded all over the world, and deeply loved for the emotion, warmth, and brilliance of his performances. Lang Lang has chosen the great Emperor Concerto, Beethoven's final piano concerto - a heroic and powerful start to our new season. We are glad that you are celebrating with us!
