Tyler Meridith
Piano Accompanist

Tyler Merideth earned both a B.M. cum laude in Church Music and a M.M. in Music Education from Belmont University. He began his teaching career in 2006 at John Overton High School in Nashville, Tennessee.  Through his leadership, the choir program grew exponentially in four years.  The JOHS Chamber Choir's “Superior” performance rating at the MTVA Choral Festival qualified them to perform at the ACDA State Choral Festival.

Merideth then taught at Montgomery Bell Academy starting in 2010.  Under his direction, the orchestra program blossomed into three distinct ensembles.  The auditioned Chamber Orchestra earned a “Superior” rating at the MTSBOA Concert Performance Assessment and qualified for State Concert Festival, a first in school history.  In addition to conducting the Orchestra, Merideth directed the Junior School Singers, taught AP Music Theory and served as a pianist for any on campus performance needs.  Over the course of nine years, he was personally involved in 435 performances.

While at MBA, Merideth began an annual summer music theory class in collaboration with the Nashville Symphony’s Accelerando Program.  This week-long program incorporated movement, group collaboration and outside of the box thinking to help provide a foundation for students interested in taking AP Music Theory. The creative nature of this program attracted students in grades 7-12 from all over Middle Tennessee.

Merideth has taught Choir, Orchestra, and AP Music Theory at Hillwood High School since 2019.  In 2020, Merideth was nominated by the students of Hillwood as a MNPS Academy Teacher of the Year Candidate and in 2021 was selected by his colleagues as a finalist for the HHS Teacher of the Year. During the pandemic, Merideth augmented interest in his ensembles by collaborating with renowned guest performers from across the Nation in the virtual classroom.  Thanks to the rich experiences students had in these interactions, enrollment in music classes increased when in-person instruction resumed.

Merideth is known for his dynamic conducting and creative approach to teaching, having guest conducted honor choirs in Tennessee and West Virginia and orchestras in Tennessee and Indiana. He has been an integral part of the W.O. Smith Music School Summer Camp since 2008 and currently serves as the assistant director of the Nashville Youth Choir.  As a collaborative pianist, Merideth has been a regular fixture for the Tennessee All-State Choirs since 2005 and recently performed with the 2020 ACDA Southern Region Junior High Honor Choir in Mobile, Alabama. In 2013, Merideth was the score reader for PBS’s National Broadcast of “Christmas at Belmont” featuring Denyce Graves. Merideth has also taught adjunct music courses at both Lipscomb and Belmont University. Since 2016, his published compositions and arrangements have been performed across the United States and abroad.
