Program Overview

By JoAnn Falletta, Music Director

January is a very special month for the Buffalo Philharmonic—celebrating Mozart’s birthday with a two-week festival in honor of this most lauded of composers. This week brings our former music director, Maximiano Valdés, back to Buffalo for two Mozart masterpieces: his Prague Symphony and his Great Mass, a special favorite of Maestro Valdés. The city of Prague had an overwhelming love for Mozart, who premiered the symphony in that city in 1787. Mozart’s Mass in C is an astounding work, written in 1782 and 1783 as a special offering to God for his wife’s recovery from a serious illness. With a quartet of great soloists and the Buffalo Philharmonic, this is a glorious week not to be missed!
