The BPO and I welcome the great Brazilian conductor Roberto Minczuk to the podium this week, bringing a beautiful romantic program. The Maestro begins with a new work by guitarist and composer Elodie Bouny, Ignis II. The centerpiece of the program is the sublime Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, with brilliant soloist Amaryn Olmeda. Another musical treasure closes the program: Dvořák’s pictorial Symphony No. 8, filled with bucolic euphoria and cheerful Czech folk elements. In Dvořák’s music, we celebrate the sheer joy of being alive in a world of natural wonders.
