We’re so glad you’re here to experience one of the most beloved musicals of all time—a show that bursts with color, humor, joy, and the timeless power of storytelling. Based on the Book of Genesis, Joseph... tells the story of a dreamer—a young man who faces adversity, betrayal, and uncertainty, yet ultimately discovers the transformative power of forgiveness, imagination, and resilience. These themes, drawn from ancient biblical texts, continue to resonate deeply with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
The musical, which was first written as a short cantata for a London school choir in 1968, was the first major collaboration between composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (Cats, Phantom of the Opera) and lyricist Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King). Despite the youth of the writers (Andrew was 17 years old when he &Tim began writing together), the show quickly grew in scope and popularity, evolving into a full-length stage show which has been produced multiple times on Broadway, in the West End, and around the world.
At DTC, we chose this show not just for its wonderful score but because it speaks so directly to the human spirit. Featuring a multi-generational cast, with children at its heart, Joseph is a celebration of hope, creativity, and the belief that dreams can triumph even in the most difficult circumstances. It’s also a perfect opportunity for families and audiences of all ages to come together and share the magic of live theater.
This summer, while Joseph lights up our stage, DTC’s commitment to young people continues offstage as well. Our SummerStage camp program is in full swing, providing hands-on theater education for children and teens. With classes ranging from acting and dancing to technical theater and creative play, there are opportunities for learners of all ages, skills, and interests to unlock their creativity. Year-round, our education and engagement programs serve thousands of young people, from student matinees and our Project Discovery program for high school students to weekly workshops at community partner sites throughout the city. These initiatives are at the core of our mission: using the power of theater to inspire and transform lives.
None of this would be possible without the generous support of our donors, funders, and community partners. Thanks to you, DTC can continue to be a place where people of all ages dream big, learn new skills, and build lasting connections through the arts.
Thank you for being here. Thank you for believing in the importance of a Tony Award-winning Theater is rooted deeply in our community. And thank you for supporting our work on stage, in the classroom, and throughout the Dallas community. We couldn’t do it without you.
Enjoy the show—and may your dreams be as bold and colorful as Joseph’s coat! I’ll see you in the lobby.
