A Few Words from the Director

When I was 14 years old, my high school music teacher arranged for our class to go and see GUYS AND DOLLS, playing in downtown Chicago. It was my first “real” musical, outside of school and community productions and I was blown away! True story, since that day I have been carrying my passport in my purse on the off chance that someone wants to take me in their private plane “to their favorite restaurant in Havana. Almost 40 years later I haven’t been asked...yet. Please let me know if you’d like to be that person -  I’ll go!

I fell in love with the show’s rich, lush score, the beautiful tunes, and the vibrant dances. I would walk around singing “Luck be a lady tonight,” “Sit down you’re rocking the boat,” and “I’ll know” all the time, and of course, get “I’ve got a horse right here, his name is Paul Revere” stuck on repeat in my head.

Have you seen the 1955 movie starring a dashing young Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, and Jean Simmons? It’s great. From a different time, for sure, with the stylized movement and the slower pacing, but I love it.

All these years later, I feel so fortunate to be given the opportunity to direct this timeless classic with such a wonderful group of people. The process has been a delight. The support and love from the cast, designers, musicians, dancers, and crew has been second to none. It has been a true artistic collaboration from start to finish. Everyone has poured their hearts into this production and I believe it shows on the stage.

Thank you for being here today and for your ongoing support of Music Theater Works. They are a wonderful company and I’m so proud to be a part of their journey.
