More about the program

SAMSON ET DALILA

Dalila rejoices. She knows she will soon win over the conquering hero, Samson, and bring victory for her people. As she prays over her impending conquest, the High Priest of Dagon arrives to enlist Dalila, hoping to bribe her into turning Samson in. She reveals she never loved Samson — her hatred of all Hebrews and the promise of vengeance spur the pair on as they swear death to Samson.

DON GIOVANNI

At Zerlina’s wedding celebration, Don Giovanni isolates and seduces the young girl with the promise of marriage. Donna Elvira arrives just in time to rescue Zerlina, escaping with her. Don Ottavio and Donna Anna arrive, searching for the still unknown killer of Donna Anna’s father. Don Giovanni pledges himself to the cause before Donna Elvira arrives again, warning the couple not to trust Don Giovanni. He dismisses her, and Don Giovanni and Donna Elvira take their leave, but Donna Anna realizes that Don Giovanni is none other than the man who murdered her father. She makes Don Ottavio swear an oath of vengeance.

DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES

In the midst of the French Revolution, Blanche has run away from the convent, seeking sanctuary in the home of her father. Mother Marie finds her, imploring Blanche to join her. Blanche admits to her lifelong state of fear and states it is only right the world should despise her. She reveals that her father has been guillotined only weeks ago, and she has been forced to serve her former servants. Mother Marie gives her the address of a safe house, and urges Blanche to find the courage to join her sisters.

DER SCHAUSPIELDIREKTOR

In a battle of the sopranos, the esteemed diva Madame Herz and wide-eyed ingenue Mademoiselle Silberklang vie for who is truly the prima donna. Monsieur Vogelsang attempts to keep the peace and reach an agreement before the two divas do each other in.

PAGLIACCI

Nedda has just defended herself from the lecherous Tonio when her lover, Silvio, appears. He implores Nedda to run away with him, leaving her aggressive husband Canio and the commedia lifestyle she is trapped in behind. She resists, fearful of what may happen to both of them if Canio found out. Silvio reminds her of the strength of their love, and Nedda agrees to flee with him.
