Recital Note

Kapwa

Kapwa (pronounced kahp-wah) is a term often used in Filipino culture to refer to the shared inner self — a recognition of the connection between others through our inherent qualities that make us human.

This ideology allows the individual person to not see themselves as separate from others, but rather sees others as extensions of themselves. Through this lens, there is interconnectedness, empathy, and mutual respect in order to acknowledge another person’s inherent human dignity and recognize their well-being is connected to your own.

The program seeks to demonstrate the unity of humanity through the repertoire which focuses on themes of love, nature, and religion.
