AVI KAPLAN is an American singer-songwriter, best known as the former vocal bass of the a cappella group Pentatonix. Born Avriel Benjamin Kaplan on April 17, 1989, in Visalia, California, he developed a passion for folk music early on, drawing inspiration from the nearby Sequoia National Park . He later studied opera and choral music at Mt. San Antonio College, where he was a member of the award-winning a cappella group Fermata Nowhere and the jazz ensemble Singcopation.
Kaplan joined Pentatonix in 2011, contributing to the group's success with five studio albums and three Grammy Awards. In 2017, he departed from the group to pursue a solo career, citing the need for a more balanced lifestyle. He released his debut EP, Sage and Stone, under the name Avriel & the Sequoias, marking a shift to folk-oriented music .
In 2022, Kaplan released his debut solo album, Floating on a Dream, produced by Shooter Jennings and featuring guest artist Joy Williams . Now based near Nashville, he continues to create music that reflects his deep connection to nature and his roots in folk traditions.
GUTHRIE BROWN is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter and guitarist originally from Montana. He began playing guitar at age six and moved to Nashville at seventeen to pursue a career in music. Since then, he has released multiple EPs, including Spirit of the Elk and Natural, produced by Grammy Award-winning producer Jacquire King. Brown's music blends elements of folk, pop, and rock, drawing comparisons to artists like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He has toured extensively, opening for artists such as Jonny Lang, Willie Nelson, and Robert Randolph, and has performed at festivals like Gasparilla and CMJ Fest. In 2023, he formed the supergroup Heavy Quitters with J.R. Wyatt, John McNally, and Shawn Conerton, releasing a self-titled album. Currently, Brown is preparing to release his upcoming EP, Hollywood Moon, co-written and produced with Reid Leslie, and is set to join Avi Kaplan on tour in 2025.
