Mike Love (Solo)
MIKE LOVE is a musician devoted to revolution through sound. Born in O’ahu, Hawai’i to a family of musicians, he has used music as conversation for as long as he can remember. Love comes from a unique convergence of influences, yet all are bound by their common ambition to inspire positive change in the world. He releases his music independently on his own Love Not War Records label, and his sound, while rooted in the spirituality and message-based music of roots reggae, fuses a variety of influences including progressive and classic rock, soul, blues, flamenco, jazz, classical and more.
While his solo shows are an internationally recognized one-man-band showcase, using complex looping techniques, multiple instruments and an array of different vocal and musical styles, Love also performs with his beloved band, The Full Circle, adding bass, keys, drums, horns and backing vocals to create a power-packed performance.
Love's latest release, Leaders, is the culmination of all of these influences and connections. Utilizing an incredible array of studio musicians, he plays the role of writer, producer, arranger and mix engineer. This album is truly his greatest work thus far, with profound and heartfelt lyrics and sonic majesty throughout every moment of this 11-track journey. This album is a Renaissance piece; in an era of two-minute songs with shallow and easily digestible lyrics, it stands out with 10-minute epic tracks like “Children of the Heart,” “Temptation” and “We Are One,” and segues that tie songs together, thematically. This is definitely an album intended to take you on a journey.
Love's songs possess wisdom and seek to instil change; they are about being conscious and mindful as human beings living among so many other life forms on this beautiful planet. For Love, music is a form of healing, learning and growing.
