It is a joy to welcome you to the Riverside Center for the Performing Arts and to share this vibrant production of Guys and Dolls as part of our celebration of America’s 250th birthday.
When Guys and Dolls first premiered in 1950, it captured a uniquely American spirit—one rooted in optimism, reinvention, and the belief that even the most unlikely among us can change for the better. Based on the colorful stories of Damon Runyon, the musical brings to life a bustling New York City where gamblers, missionaries, showgirls, and dreamers all chase something just out of reach: luck, love, or redemption.
In choosing this production to mark this historic milestone, we were drawn to its celebration of individuality and community—two ideals that have shaped our nation since its founding. Beneath the comedy and dazzling score by Frank Loesser lies a heartfelt reminder that transformation is always possible, and that connection—across backgrounds, beliefs, and ambitions—is what truly defines us.
Our approach to this production has been to honor the classic charm of Guys and Dolls while exploring the humanity of its characters. These are people searching for belonging, taking risks, and daring to hope—qualities that continue to resonate today, 250 years into the American story.
I honor this wonderful cast, orchestra and creative team for bringing to life another quality production at Riverside Center!
Thank you for joining us in this celebration of theater, of music, and of the enduring American spirit. We hope you leave tapping your toes, smiling a little wider, and believing—just a bit more—in the power of a second chance.
Enjoy the show!
